The generation growing up on Instagram, Tik-Tok, and Youtube videos is well aware of what a challenge it is in the modern world. In simple words, it is a kind of flash mob, but only in video format.
How it all started
One of the first large-scale marathons, which joined thousands of people around the world, including celebrities, was the Ice Bucket Challenge.
The ice water pouring challenge was launched in the summer of 2014 by American volunteers. So the activists raised money for the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis research fund. According to the rules of the challenge, the participant who doused himself with a bucket of cold water donated $ 10, and then the queue passed to three more volunteers. The one who refused the ice shower paid ten times more.
Today there are a huge number of different challenges they can be:
-
Sports challenges do not aim to identify a record holder. Their main task is to test the strength and endurance of their own body and willpower: if someone could lose weight without a diet, or run a marathon, then I can.
-
Personal (or life) relay challenges motivate their participants to get out of their comfort zone, to do something unusual for them: to abandon social networks, stop whining or start reading 20 pages a day.
-
Art challenges encourage you to develop your creativity by drawing, photographing, knitting, embroidering, and other hobbies.
-
Healthy lifestyle marathons are aimed at comprehensive improvement of the body: this can be both regular yoga classes and the rejection of bad habits.
Many perceive challenges as viral videos, which have one mission – entertainment. However, this opinion is mistaken. Take at least sports challenges, thanks to which people who hate training, still take themselves in hand, become stronger and more resilient.
